I get lots of new customers that are dealing with a custom smith for the first time. This page is intended to school them and to inform returning customers of a few changes.
The changes in policy are designed to make things easier for me as well as improve delivery times. You will also have the peace of mind that you have your gun and money until I need it and you will not be without it for very long. I am trying to be fair and give equitable priority to all types of work. Exceptions and modifications to policy will be made as needed.
The following policy is in effect:
NOTICE!! Due to a backlog of work as of 2-26-17, I am not accepting any small jobs such as cyl. reaming, sight blades, barrel fitting, etc. I will take basic tuneup packages and try to honor the 30-45 day turnaround. You are welcome to send in order forms only for other work listed on this site. Wait times will be at least 12-14 mos. for most other work. If you don't want to wait, you can take advantage of my Expedited service option below.
Any gun sent in for service will carry a $150 minimum charge.
All jobs of $600 or less will be classed as small jobs. I will set aside 1 week per month to work on these and do as many as possible during that period. Jobs will be done according to the order they were received. Remaining small jobs will carry over until the next month, etc. Jobs such as replacement sight blades and cylinder reaming will be done the following monthly 1 week period after being received. The 1 week period will be looked at from time to time and adjusted up or down in length by the volume of orders received. This change in policy is needed to expedite jobs of this type and cut turnaround time to 3-4 months maximum. Please submit a completed order form and I will contact you when to ship. No money will be accepted until I have the gun in hand.
Jobs over $600 will be classed as big jobs. These will be worked on during the other 3 weeks of the month and done in order received. I will not accept delivery of anymore guns for this job class until I have notified you to send the gun. This will cut shop time to a minimum, usually 2-6 weeks depending on job. I will allow exceptions to the shipping requirement under certain circumstances. I ask that you submit a completed order form and wait until you hear from me to ship gun. No money will be accepted until I have the gun in hand. This class of job typically will require a longer wait time as I usually stay at least a year behind. Customers wanting to order GP100 conversions will need to complete an order form and send their gun immediately. I will promptly send barrel out for rebore to shorten delivery time as much as possible. Barrel reboring can typically take 2-6 mos. depending on their workload.
If you submit a completed order form and decide on changes at a later date, let me know asap and I will update your order. If this is not done in a timely manner, it may possibly delay your gun further as I frequently make up custom parts ahead of time. If you decide you want to cancel your order before your number comes up, let me know and I will do so with no ill feelings. I will not accept any future work from customers that make a habit of abusing this policy or wait until I notify them to ship their gun and then cancel the order.
Expedited service- If you can’t wait and want to be placed at the top of the list, it will cost you an extra 50% of normal pricing. 30 day or less delivery in most cases. Expedited service is not available on GP100 caliber conversions.
Wait times- All wait time period quotes will be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.
Being a licensed FFL holder, I will gladly furnish a copy of the license for those needing it for shipping purposes. Email me to get a copy.
